| RESULTS OF LIFE ON SUGAR CANE FARM (Near Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India) The Biofertilizer LIFE offered by Biomax was tried in a sugarcane farm near Kolhapur, Maharashtra. The results are summarized as under. The area is generally considered quite fertile and supporting sugarcane farming. Sugar recovery in mills reaches 12% or even better. Maximization of the farming profitability is already reached by most farmers. An incremental benefit of even 5 ??? 10% is hence acceptable to the farmers. Present trials were conducted with a view to evaluate the cost benefits offered by the product LIFE. Farm Condition Data Soil: Riverside, Black fertile soil. Water: Regular supply of river water by lift irrigation scheme. Temperature: 12 ??? 330C. Sugarcane Strain Used: No 86032. Sugar mills in the area prefer the strain. The same is harvested the mills teams on priority basis. Hence is the strain of choice in the area and was used for the trials. Evaluating Yields and Quality of the farm produce: Since it is easier and quicker to measure the yield and quality of the produce by making Gaggery instead of offering to the sugar mills. Dosage 1. LIFE was used at 1/200 dilution at the setting time for the seeds of sugarcane variety 86032. The seeds were pre-soaked in the LIFE (30ml/litre) with molasses as adsorbent. 2. For a 22,000 square feet farm 2 litres of LIFE was used to irrigate the farms on addition of the usual fertilizers including urea, phosphates and neem cake. 3. The plot was again treated with 2 litres of LIFE after one month along with other fertilizers as usual. 4. The booster dose was given at 6th month with 2 litres of LIFE for the same plot. Observations 1. Setting survival rate was 100%. 2. Sugarcane leaves were dark (blackish) green from the beginning. 3. Disease incidence was much lowered. 4. Sulfur shortage problems were never seen. 5. Plants were healthier and taller than control plants. 6. The weight of harvest was 35 tonnes against 25 tonnes (40% increase) 7. Gaggary recovery was 42 quintals against 30 quintals of the control. 8. Price received for the gool was 1550/quintal against control 1400/quital for control (>10% increase). 9. Billing was Rs 65100 for trials against 42,000 of control (55% increase). Economics ??? With survival rate of 100% blank or thinned spots were not formed. o No re-plantation was required to be done, o Minimized labour costs and time. ??? Fewer expenses on medicine. o The savings in medicine costs almost offset product cost. o Attempts at reducing other fertilizer dosages to about the half may further increase farm profitability. ??? Yield (weight) increase by 40% ??? Quality of end product fetched a better price. o An increase of 10% in the finished product showed the improved quality of the crop. ??? A total of 55% improvement in billing. Conclusion ??? The biofertilizer LIFE used at the dose rates used during the trials, resulted in an overall improved profitability of the sugarcane farm. ??? Since other expenses were same for both trials as well as the control plots, the 55% improvement observed in billing can be considered similar to improvement in profits. Future Proposals Try early harvesting to save a month to get an additional vegetable crop to add to the farm profitability or let the soil rest for month for self-rejuvenation. |
